An experiment in subtle color; if you know my work at all, you know I tend to use the natural colors of wool-- white, cream, brown, grey-- but I'll confess I'm finding myself interested in more... colorful colors and how they can make you feel. For this piece I was hoping the backside would cast pink light against the wall. I left gaps at the top, bottom, and sides to let light in and out. But it's REALLY subtle, despite the garish bright pink... What do you think? You can see it IN PERSON this weekend (Dec 10&11) in SJ, CA- link in bio.

There are memories associated with each object I create, some painful. In the literal sense. When one of the porcupine quills on this piece attacked me (okay, like most porcupine quill 'attacks,' I just got too close) I had to repair it. Which meant finding a suitable replacement quill that matched with the others, and reinserting it (with a tiny and tidy amount of glue, which clearly doesn't help much). That's why THIS ONE is definitely not meant to be touchable.

“Find Your Center” 36x36” has over 1300 individually tied pieces of silk in it. The center line is askew. This blobby abstracted form is another #Amorphozoa sculpture, meant to be suggestive of a warm, cuddly creature, yet severely low-maintenance. I always saw this one as curved gently to the left with a 'mane' on top, but my partner alerted me to the fact that it also looks like it's moving quickly towards the right, with the hair flowing out behind it. Ah, #abstractsculpture is #intheeyeofthebeholder - we bring to it our own lifetime's experiences, views, and imaginings. That's why I love it so much. Often the #material influences the creation- in this case the vintage #metalmesh #repurposedeveningbag was more bulky and 3D, with each circular part a dome- and less shiny. So I made a more squat, chunky #mysteriouscreature #sculpture out of it.
